Michael Murphy BA Hons
I studied at Central St Martin’s School of Art From 1989-1993 as a mature student where I was awarded BA Hons in Fine Art and Critical Studies.
From 1994 - 1999 I was a member of ‘The Male Identity Group’, a group of male artists exploring dominant forms of masculinity. By building on a feminist agenda, the group saw its work as a critical evaluation of masculinity and its images. Over a period of five years I showed work in a number of exhibitions with the group in the form of video, installation, paintings and drawings.
While continuing to practice as an artist I trained in Person Centred Art Therapy Skills and worked as a drug and alcohol counsellor for twelve years. I am currently working on a series of paintings drawn from dreams, memory and imagination.
